How to play this build
Leap (Q) onto the enemy and activate Empower (W) for a Lich Bane–boosted hit. When focused, pop Counter Strike (E) to dodge autos and stun them; Guinsoo + Nashor give sustained hybrid DPS.
Strengths
- Your W and R lightning deal magic damage, so with AP you land a huge burst nobody expects.
- Your E blocks autoattacks for a few seconds and stuns at the end: you win almost any 1v1 if timed right.
- Incredible scaling: late game, one combo deletes carries.
Weaknesses
- Weak early: until level 6 you're vulnerable to poke and lane freezes.
- Your damage depends on closing distance; against pure kiting you struggle.
- Without E up, you're much easier to kill.
Key combos
- Q (leap) → W (empowered strike) → E (dodge, stuns at the end) → second hit with R active for the magic burst.
Matchups
You beat
- Autoattack-reliant fighters (Tryndamere, Master Yi): your E shuts them off.
- Champions without escapes that your Q reaches.
Trouble vs
- Range and poke (Teemo, Vayne) who wear you down before you arrive.
- Hard CC that locks you while they hit you.
Game plan
Survive laning by farming and dodging poke; avoid real fights before level 6. With R up and a couple of items, your combo starts one-shotting squishies. In teamfights, wait out their CC, jump the carry and use E to tank while you delete them.
Quick tips
- Time E so the stun lands at the peak of enemy autoattacks.
- Don't Q in as engage unless E is ready as your escape.
Skill order
Max priority:
The ultimate (R) is always leveled at 6, 11 and 16.

- Why this order
- Empower (W) for AP damage with Lich Bane; Counter Strike (E) second for the stun. Q at 1 point (mobility only). A normal Jax maxes Q.
Items and what they do
-
Guinsoo's Rageblade Hybrid AD/AP that stacks attack speed and power the longer you fight. -
Lich Bane AP, mana and move speed; attack after a spell deals huge magic damage scaling with AP. Key for AP auto builds. -
Nashor's Tooth AP, CDR and attack speed, plus magic on-hit. For AP champs that auto-attack. -
Zhonya's Hourglass AP and armor; stasis active makes you invulnerable and untargetable for a couple seconds. -
Sorcerer's Shoes Boots with magic penetration.
Runes
In classic LoL, runes were a system SEPARATE from masteries: bought with IP (Influence Points) and slotted into 4 tiers — Marks (red), Seals (yellow), Glyphs (blue) and Quintessences (purple, the strongest). They gave flat stats: damage, armor, penetration, etc.

Masteries: how they work
In classic LoL you have up to 30 points (at level 30) to split across three trees: Offense (damage), Defense (durability) and Utility (mana, cooldown reduction and mobility). The notation 21/0/9 means 21 points in Offense, 0 in Defense and 9 in Utility.

- 21/9/0 — Offense
- Why this page
